So did anyone else notice that even though Emily is "blessed" with above average looks it only causes her trouble. If she wasnt so appealing the whole love situation wouldnt be an issue and she wouldnt be at risk for abduction by her (step uncle's?) ex friend who is now pining after her. (yeah abduction isnt the word but im using it!) On the other hand, who wants to read about an average girl with no love ties?
The trouble just only adds to the suspense to the story, I guess. If it was bland, there wouldn't be any substance to the story. Also the romance along with the gothicism adds to the novel.
ReplyDeleteMuch like how tragedies are more tragic if the person experiencing the fall has a long way down (like M hall stairs), scary situations or melancholy moments are better if the girl is pretty? Like Kiley said, who wants to read about average; that may be to close to our own lives.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I have enjoyed following your trains of thought--some very interesting moments in your blog.
